The choir Ljómur was founded on February 19 th in 1939, in connection with the consecration of the new church in Vági.
Ella Nolsøe (b. Dahl) og Edith Dahl were the pioneers in the choir´s early years. Edith was the head of the choir for almost 20 years. Since then Ellen Dahl, Jóannes Nolsøe and Dorte Tilma – amongst others – have been in charge of the choir.
The choir´s schedule has always been based on hymns and songs, the main goal being to support the hymn singing during the service.
From the beginning the All Saint´s Day concert on the first Sunday of November has formed an integral part of the choir.
The choir Ljómur frequently has domestic and abroad singing events.
Although these last years bear the mark of shifting choirmasters, the choir has remained active to this day.
Benjamin Gaasedal from Tórshavn is the current choirmaster of Ljómur.
