Kata is a vocal group, which since 2013 for the most part has been performing newly interpreted versions of old Faroese songs like kvæði, skjaldur and short ballads. Unn Paturson has arranged the songs for voices.
Kata has released two albums: Tívils døtur (Tutl, 2016) and 1902 (Tutl, 2020)
In 2020 Kata recieved a Faroese Music Award for their CD called 1902. The CD contains new interpretations of Faroese traditional songs that Danish musicologist, Hjalmar Thuren, recorded on his study tour in the summer of 1902. He had singers in the Faroe Islands singing for him some of the songs that they knew, while recording them on a phonograph.
On Kata’s versioins, there have been added instruments on some of the songs – percussion, church organ and electronics.
