Jens Søndergaard Quintet (DK, FO, IS)

Jens Christian Søndergård (born 4 February 1945 in Copenhagen) is a Danish saxophonist (primarily alto saxophone). Søndergaard was a member of Leonardo Pedersen’s Jazzkapel from 1967 to 1978, and from 1978, he was a member of Swingstyrke 7 and the Etta Cameron Group. In 1981, he started the Søndergaard Quartet with, among others, Marilyn Mazur. The quartet has, i.a., accompanied the poet Peter Poulsen at several jazz and poetry events. He has also collaborated with i.a. the two American saxophonists, Lee Konitz and Benny Golson. Søndergaard played in the Odense group White Label from 1980 to 1983 and 1985 in the group Unit 4 feat, among others, the pianist Jørgen Emborg.
Jens Søndergaard has, and still is, performing in various big bands. In 2007, he formed the group Art of Pepper, which recorded the live album More Pepper. In 2009, he recorded a duo album with the American pianist Kenny Werner, Danish Jazz Record of the Year 2009.
Jens Søndergaard quartet will perform, among others, new compositions by Rógvi á Rógvu.
