The “Maggio delle Ragazze” of Riolunato (Italy) is a far flung in the past old popular tradition which celebrates the coming back of the good season, and is celebrated in two moments: the night between the 30th April and the 1st May, and on the second Sunday of May. This tradition is handed down from one generation to another, and is performed by the “maggiolanti” (young singers, musicians and dancers). During the night the “maggiolanti” go around the village singing goodwishing songs and “ambasciate” to fancied to be fiancées; while on Sunday the villagers present them with food and drinks which, brought to the square, are shared amid songs and dances.”
